Recreating an outfit from WandaVision (no sewing required!)
Wanda Maximoff is one of the best dressed characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only are her super suits extremely cool (her new look that debuted in WandaVision is one of my favorite superhero outfits ever) but also even her personal casual style is so distinctive. Her wardrobe is filled with dark colors, unique jewelry, long coats and layers that make her stand out even when she’s off superhero duty.
With the premiere of WandaVision earlier this year, we had 9 episodes filled with so much new and glorious Wanda causal wear from all different eras. However, I was particularly enamored with this simple but stylish outfit from episode 8. Since I already had most the pieces on hand I thought it would be fun to recreate this outfit for myself! It’s basically the world’s most low key cosplay.
1) Boots
Looking at some behind the scenes pictures, it looks like Elizabeth Olsen is wearing some heeled black booties (specifically Prada leather ankle boots). I definitely wasn’t going to try and get the exact ones but luckily I already have a pair of leather ankle boots from Breaking Hearts & Burning Rubber that I purchased on clearance some time ago.
2) Jeans
Because I’m a millennial that will never let go of her skinny jeans, I already had a black pair on hand. Mine are from American Eagle but you can truly find some anywhere if you don’t already own some.
3) Maroon shirt
Behind the scenes pictures revealed that this shirt is actually long sleeved, but I decided to purchase a short sleeved scoop neck tee from Target instead just so I didn’t have three layers of sleeves between this, the black jacket, and the plaid jacket.
4) Black zip hoodie
Since I already owned this black hooded cardigan from Foxblood I used that instead of an actual zip hoodie, but any piece that’s long with a hood will do!
5) Plaid Jacket
By far the hardest piece to get was the grey plaid jacket. Since it’s the most visible part of the outfit, I was determined to find either the exact jacket or something as close as possible.
After some digging I found that it was the Harlyn Graham Longline Plaid Blazer from Anthropologie. However, by the time WandaVision aired the jacket had been discontinued, so I was going to have to buy it from a reseller.
I searched for almost a year for this jacket in my size, and one day I finally found it on Thredup! Seriously if you haven’t used Thredup before, it’s absolutely amazing and it’s such a lifesaver for going on specific treasure hunts like this.
That’s the outfit! As a pro tip if you want to try and recreate other WandaVision outfits or any outfits from tv, one of my favorite websites is shopyourtv.com. It’s an amazing resource that tells you where you can find certain articles of clothing from hundreds of tv shows. It’s where I was able to find some of the behind the scenes images and see what exact coat Wanda is wearing!
If you decide to recreate this outfit yourself, happy hunting!
